The National Conference is an immersive and invaluable experience that took place over two days.
Each day is made up of engaging keynote presentations and panels from some of the brightest minds in sports performance.
The NSPA’s National Conference are packed with athlete development, training and coaching information with a Coach line-up unlike any you’ve ever seen.
The National Conference will be set-up like this: Day 1: Is when all the lectures happen - where the presenters will go in-depth with the methods that they are using and sharing their knowledge so that you can become a better coach. The end of Day 1, we hosted a Coaches Roundtable where some great questions were asked from other sports performance coaches on topics on latest trend, hot topics and what direction the presenters see our field going.
Day 2: All hands-on. Our National Conferences were held in sports training facility that are perfectly set-up for the hands-on, using both the turf and weight room. The hands-on were set-up with 3 coaches (presenters) going at once, splitting the attendees in 3 groups (where they would rotate around). We split the attendees in three small groups so we can keep the groups small enough where everyone can participate and ask questions. Plus it made it easier for us to record these sessions. This is where the presenters will be able to show you the actual drills, exercises, cues and techniques that they are using with their athletes.
2019 National Conference
Here's how kicked off the event:
Mark Fitzgerald, Head Strength Coach for the Anaheim Ducks started it off with "Managing Today’s Athlete"
Dr. Chris Mohr was next with the "Nutrition Hot Topics: Keto, Fasting and Everything in Between"
Nate Brookreson, from NC State, went into "Physical Preparation of the Collegiate Swimming Athlete"
Brian Buck, from Sparta Science, covered "Ground Reaction Force: Trends and Training Implications"
Chip Morton, Strength & Conditioning Coach NFL's Cincinnati Bengals was our Keynote. Wow, did Chip's passion come through.
On Sunday, Day 2, was all hands-on. It's always great when you can actually try out the drills and exercises you are learning.
Robert dos Remedios – “Chaos Speed Training”
Donnie Maib, University of Texas, - "Recovery, Rest, Reset – How to Properly Care for Your Body"
Tim Socha, University of Washington - Complexing Movements in the Weight Room – “Getting the most Bang for your Buck”
Lee Taft – “Rebooting the Athlete- Fundamentals of Movement”
Wil Fleming – “The Truth about Velocity based Training”
Then we finished off the day with multiple coaches roundtables. Besides the coaches who spoke on Day 1, we added Melissa Lambert (from the MLB LA Dodgers), Matt Durant (Head S&C University of La Verne), Bobby Smith (Owner of RYPT), and Katie Guizar (Strength and Conditioning Coach at Mater Dei High School). We themed the roundtables so attendees could get specific with their questions. To be able to ask questions to the quality of coach and the level of experience that these coaches have had, was an amazing opportunity.
2018 National Conference
Donnie Maib from University of Texas started it off with “Plyometrics and Power Training: Preparation, Progressions and Programming”.
Dr. Chris Mohr was next with the “The Best Diet for Performance”
Toby Brooks from Texas Tech went deep covering “Long-Term Athletic Development: Global Perspectives From Research to Reality”
Anthony Glass from THE Ohio State pretty much showed his whole training program with his topic “Training the Olympic Sport Athlete – Putting the Athletic Development Program and Plan Together”

DAY 2
On Sunday, Day 2, was all hands-on. It's always great when you can actually try out the drills and exercises you are learning.
Here was the line-up:
Robert dos Remedios – “Movement Prep and Dynamic Warm-up”
Chris Frankel – “Foundational Strength Training Movements for Athletes”
Lee Taft – “Core Speed”
Wil Fleming – “Olympic Lifting Techniques”
Josh Henkin – “Multi-Planar Strength Training: The Missing Component of Developing the Total Athlete”
Jimmy Radcliffe (University of Oregon) – “Acceleration Development and Increasing Team Speed”
The knowledge and instruction these coaches gave, simply was an amazing experience. There is no better line-up of coaches and they did what they do best, coach. So many great take-aways.
